Welcome to Mrs. Smith's 6th Grade Website for the 2018/2019 School Year!
My mission as a teacher is not only to teach all academic content to the best of my ability, but also to cultivate a safe and welcoming community for all students in my class. Middle School can be scary and intimidating and there are a lot of new experiences to be had, but teachers at OCI really do invest in their students. I want every student in my class to be successful, however, I know that might look different for each person. Please know that I am here to work as a team with each student, their family, and our staff to make this year the best it can be.

About Me: I have been teaching for 13 years. I started in Madera where I taught Kindergarten, 3rd Grade, and 1st grade for a total of 7 years, but I really wanted to move from Fresno up to the beautiful mountain area. In 2013 I interviewed for a job at Wasuma Elementary and got it! One of the best moments of my life. Teaching in this small community has so many wonderful rewards and I am so happy to have been able to enter it in 2013. After working for one year at Wasuma in 7th and 8th grade, I was transferred to OCI. I was a a little worried about the move because I loved my new start at Wasuma, but the last 5 years at OCI have been some of the best teaching years of my life. I love the staff, the support, and respect I receive as an educator, and I love the students that come into my classes every year.
I have 2 kids that I adore and who are silly people just like me. My son is in 3rd grade and my daughter is starting 1st grade. They both love visiting my class and meeting my students. In my free time I enjoy playing the guitar and ukulele, I make jewelry from gemstone and glass, and I enjoy being out and about in nature whenever I can.
